Today’s tutorial is all about music theory for music producers in particular.
Music theory. Some of us love it, some of us hate. Is music theory something that get’s your mental gears churning out of excitement? Or do you consider it something an impediment to your creative process?
Regardless, knowing at least a little will go a long way toward your creativity and workflow in the studio.
We’ll be covering just the basics of what you need to know if you want to be a pop and electronic music producer, so the information here is very basic. This includes understanding scales and keys, learning the notes of the piano roll on your DAW, a brief introduction to chords, and of course, rhythm.
If you need to learn more advanced music theory, we suggest taking a look at some courses we recommended here.
Otherwise, let us know in the video comments section what aspect of music theory you’d like us to get more in depth with.
So, how much theory do you need to know? Depends on how much you feel you need. Much can be learned as you go, but you need the right foundation, and this video should attempt to provide that.
Make sure to watch this all the way to the end!
